Percentage of Turnover Generated by New Products in Industry and Business-oriented Services in Germany

The percentage of turnover from new products or services is a measure of the innovation success of companies.

This share declined in 2021 in R&D-intensive industry compared to the previous year from 30.6 to 29.9 percent, continuing the slightly declining trend of previous years. In contrast, a fairly significant increase compared to the previous year from 14.7 to 18.1 percent was recorded in knowledge-intensive services. In other services, the turnover share of new products fell from 6.8 to 4.5 percent.

New products, measured in terms of turnover in knowledge-intensive services, have already gained significantly in importance since 2010, while they have lost significance in the research-intensive industries.
