A functioning research and innovation system is essential to ensure competitiveness and prosperity in Germany and to address pressing social and environmental issues of the future. Germany has a strong, highly differentiated research sector. German industry is also among the most research-intensive in the world. Nevertheless, international comparative studies show that Germany is falling behind in important areas of research and innovation. Challenges include, for example, knowledge transfer and the large-scale dissemination of innovations, as well as bureaucratic obstacles.

The necessary acceleration in the research and innovation system requires more exchange and joint action between business, science and politics. 

The Research and Innovation Summit has been in existence since 2015 as a high-level forum for debate on innovation and research policy. Through the exchange at the summit, we pursue the goal of strengthening Germany as a place of innovation-based value creation and scientific breakthroughs. Registration is only possible on the basis of an invitation.
