Innovation activities of companies aim to create competitive advantages through innovation. They also contribute to economic growth. In the case of product innovations, new or improved products or services are introduced to the market whose characteristics differ from the products and services previously offered on the market. The introduction of a new or improved manufacturing process is called a process innovation. The innovation intensity, the share of turnover with new products and the share of companies with innovations are used to illustrate the innovation behaviour of the German economy in various business sectors and in an international comparison.
